Terms of Service
Last updated: 2026-05-18
These terms govern your use of Across Roadtrips. By creating an account or signing in, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.
1. Acceptance
By creating an account, signing in with Google, or otherwise using Across, you confirm you've read and accept these Terms and the Community Guidelines. You must be at least 16 years old (or the digital-consent age in your country) to use the service. We ask you to re-accept whenever these documents change materially — you'll see this screen again the next time you sign in.
2. The service
Across is a personal, non-commercial project that lets you plan road trips: create trips, drop GPS waypoints on a map, attach photos and notes, share them with co-travelers and collect comments. It is provided free of charge, as-is, with no uptime or data-durability guarantee. Keep your own copies of anything important.
3. Your account
You're responsible for keeping your credentials safe and for everything done under your account. Use a strong, unique password. Tell us immediately at [email protected] if you suspect unauthorized access. One person per account; don't share or sell accounts.
4. Your content
You keep all rights to the trips, points, notes, photos and comments you create. You grant us only the limited, non-exclusive licence needed to store, process and display that content to you and to the people you explicitly share it with — nothing more. We never sell it, use it for advertising, or train AI models on it. You are solely responsible for what you upload. Only upload content you have the right to share, and don't upload other people's photos or personal data without their consent.
5. Acceptable use
Don't use Across to break the law, infringe others' rights, or harm anyone. Specifically: no harassment, hate speech, threats or doxxing; no sexual content involving minors; no malware, scraping, brute-forcing or attempts to bypass access controls; no spam or bulk automated requests; no impersonation. The Community Guidelines expand on this and are part of these Terms.
6. Privacy
How we handle your personal data is described in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms. In short: minimal data, no trackers, no ads, EU hosting, GDPR rights honoured.
7. Availability & changes
Because this is a hobby project, the service may change, break, or be discontinued at any time without notice. We may add, modify or remove features. We'll make a reasonable effort to let active users export their data before any planned shutdown, but can't promise it in every scenario.
8. Disclaimer & liability
The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind. Routes and map data are indicative only — always rely on official signage and your own judgement when actually travelling. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the operator is not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages, lost data, or losses arising from your use of (or inability to use) the service. Nothing here excludes liability that can't be excluded by law.
9. Suspension & termination
You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Danger zone. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or the Community Guidelines, or where required by law — immediately in serious cases (e.g. illegal content, security abuse). On termination, your content is deleted as described in the Privacy Policy.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms. The 'Last updated' date reflects the latest material change, and a material change re-triggers the acceptance screen on your next sign-in. Continuing to use the service after accepting means you agree to the new version.
11. Contact & governing law
Questions about these Terms: [email protected]. These Terms are governed by French law, without prejudice to the mandatory consumer-protection rules of your country of residence. Disputes that can't be resolved amicably fall under the competent French courts.
